~ I have always had a thing for the fashion style of the 1950's with the flowing petticoats and that girly style
~ My wedding dress wqas fashioned in the style ..i made it myself from cream silk .. a corset style front with burgundy satin silk ribbon and dark red roses for an edge trim on the skirt
~ metres and metres of cream tulle made up a floating petticoat with a silk trim edge that took ages to sew ..
~ ahh the joys :-)

The 1950s saw a beautiful new femininity in women's fashion.
Influences of the 1950 fashion era where the NEW LOOK by The house of Dior
~ softer shoulders, nipped-in waists, and fuller skirts were making an appearance in womens fashion dresses
~The full skirts that were so poular in the 1950's needed support to look good as the extended outward
~ The new materials nylon was used extensively to create bouffant net petticoats or sometimes called paper nylon petticoats.
~ To make the petticoat really strong in support it was stiffened using either starch or a strong sugar solution.
~ To really get the skirts to swing in the winds women used to wear several petticoats often of varying styles get the 'just right' look
~ A 1950's petticoat had a certain air of fullness that floated with a little swish when the woman weater wore it with grace
~ When taking a look at Fashion history we can see that many of the 1950's fashion styles were revolutionised by new synthetic fabrics. Many of the 1950's fabrics were synthesised from petrochemicals and we could now find such fabrics as
Nylon (Polyamide), Crimplene (Polyester) and Orlon (Acrylic/ Polyacrylonitrile)
